Busy Spheres Screensaver

BusySpheres is a beautiful screensaver by Terry Welsh. It was originally written for Windows, and then ported to Linux by Tugrul Galati. I could not find a Mac OS X version, so I wrote one based upon screensaver ports by Stéphane Sudre.

You can download the screensaver for free below. It includes full source code. Installation instructions are included in the download.

Download BusySpheres 1.1 - Universal Binary for Intel and PowerPC, requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher (72KB)

Download BusySpheres 1.0.1 - Mac OS X 10.2 or later, PowerPC macs only (60KB)

Requirements (1.1):

  • PowerPC G3 or better OR Intel Core processor or better
  • Mac OS X 10.4 or better

Requirements (1.0.1):

  • PowerPC G3 or better
  • Mac OS X 10.2 or better

Version History:

  • 1.1 (5/13/2006) - Now a universal binary for compatibility with both Intel and PowerPC macintoshes.
  • 1.0.1 (7/30/2005) - Quick fix for a complier problem that prevented randomized patterns from reliably working.
  • 1.0 (7/30/2005) - Initial port based upon Sudre's "Plasma" 10.0.4 and the busyspheres source code from Galati's 0.80 release of rss-glx.
